Objectives for the Gateway

 

The objectives we have tentatively set for the renewed gateway are: 

​

1. Create a 'sense of arrival' at Eltham and the Green Wedge Shire of Nillumbik, and encourage slower, safer speeds within Eltham

​

2. Reclaim and revegetate the underutilised roadside land areas for public open space

​

3. Acknowledge the original owners of the land

 

4. Express the character and history of the area.

Background

​

The inspiration for the renewal project had its origins during a frustrating meeting with MRPV. It became clear that our year-long advocacy to save the roundabout gateway would be unsuccessful.

 

We pleaded for help to deliver something positive. Since then we have been consulting with all relevant organisations to align them with our vision. 

​

The Gateway Renewal Project changes the focus from the loss of what we had to something positive - looking beyond the MRPV project and looking towards our community to create a new gateway that we can be proud of.
